The Xiapu Nuclear Power 600MW Demonstration Fast Reactor Project is a landmark project leading the development of nuclear energy in China. It is a key link in the "three-step" strategy for nuclear energy development and has extremely important strategic significance. China is the 8th country in the world to possess fast reactor technology. Currently, China has established a complete nuclear fuel cycle system that is only available in a few countries in the world. The development of pressurized water reactors and fast reactors is matched, and a closed fuel cycle system is formed with advanced post-treatment technology, which is the guarantee for the sustainable development of nuclear energy in China. The fast reactor has become the main reactor type of the fourth generation advanced nuclear energy system. It can increase the utilization rate of natural uranium resources from the current about 1% to over 60%, and minimize radioactive waste. It can solve the problems of depleted uranium resources, low utilization rate of nuclear materials, and difficult disposal of nuclear waste in one fell swoop. At present, Unit 1 and Unit 2 of the demonstration fast reactor are under construction.
